Today’s blog is about whether a licensed North Carolina Dental Professional will lose their license if they receive a DWI. The answer to this question is most likely not. However, you want to pay a lot of attention to whether or not you have to self-report, and that could be for the arrest and/or for the conviction. Additionally, you ought to also make sure you pay particular attention to whether or not you are asked a question on your renewal application if you have been arrested or convicted in the twelve months prior to the renewal of your dental license. As long as you get those correct and you either self-report if required or answer correctly on your renewal application, that is going to help you when you go further in the process with the Dental Board.
The next thing to consider is if you have an issue with alcohol and or other substances, are you as the licensee going to get help with that? If you are getting help, you need to go ahead and do it. If that involves outpatient and/or inpatient treatment, you need to go ahead and do that. Make sure that you have your records available to send over to the Dental Board at the appropriate time to make sure the Dental Board is aware that you are getting the necessary treatment to make sure that you are doing the proper work in the dental field.
