Steve Draper

Before joining North State Law, Steve spent the last few years as an Assistant Attorney General with the North Carolina Department of Justice representing state agencies on a variety of matters including licensing and certification of law enforcement officers.

Prior to that, Steve started practice as a commercial litigation attorney, eventually focusing on construction law, including being general counsel for one of the larger firms in the state, and was a licensed general contractor.

Before going into law, Steve served in the United States Army Special Forces, qualified as an 18E Special Operations Communication Sergeant. He kept that spirit of adventure, taking up hobbies that included being a pilot, mountain climbing, ocean kayaking, and competitive shooting.

Steve is admitted to practice in all State courts in North Carolina, the Federal Eastern, Middle and Western District Courts of North Carolina, and the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. He attended North Carolina State University and Wake Forest University School of Law, where he graduated with honors.

These days Steve spends time away from work enjoying hiking and camping with his family and playing guitar.

Steve’s approach to legal matters is to consider whether a viable solution exists that can work for both sides and if so work to achieve that. He values giving his clients honest practical advice and treating everyone involved with respect. Sometimes it takes going to court to get the right result, and when that happens Steve is always ready to fight for his client.
