What is a Child Care ‘Qualification Letter’ in NC?

Today’s blog discusses the qualification letters from the Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) in the great state of North Carolina. So, what is a “qualification letter” from the Division of Child Development and Early Education?
A qualification letter is letting a daycare owner or administrator know that the Division received the background check for each employee, everything is checked out, and they’re fine. It is very important for daycare owners and those running daycare facilities to make sure they have qualification letters, which means background checks run on every single employee within every five years. Do not miss that deadline. If an employee misses the deadline, they cannot work until they get the qualification letter. Do not let an employee work if they don’t have the qualification letter. Remember background checks for each employee every five years. That is required through the Division of Child Development and Early education in the state of North Carolina.[North Carolina Child Care Law (General Statute 110-90.2)]
There is a ton of information, including basically a step-by-step guide that’s on the Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) website that basically leads you to the third party company that runs the background checks for them. All that goes back through DCDEE and it will end up, if everything is done correctly, result in a qualification letter for each employee that has a background check that comes back clean.
